According to Paul Hunt, the Ironbark-1 exploration well is the first well drilled by BP in Australia in the last decade.
Ironbark-1 will be drilled at a depth of 300 meters in the water, at 170 km offshore Karratha.
The operation is being carried out using the Diamond Offshores’s Ocean rig, which is currently located on Barrow Offshore Island due to marine traffic.
BP plans to carry out drilling operations in the third quarter of the year, which depends on access to the rig. The drilling, evaluation, plug-in and handover of Ironbark-1 will take up to 100 days.
The gas exploitation of this well is estimated at 15 trillion cubic feet according to the Triassic Mungaroo formation.
The Mungaroo structure has also been used for the Gorgon, Julimar-Brunello, Lago, Goodwyn, Perseus and NorthRanking gas fields.
BP is very promising in the production of gas condensate from Ironbark and has a lot of confidence in its success in this field.
Due to its great depth (about 5500 meters), the drilling operation of this well will be drilled in several stages.
