Oil and Gas industry challenges caused by COVID-19

Oil and gas industry provides essential energy for millions of homes, manufacturers, businesses … in Australia. Many employees in this industry have to work in different regional and remote areas to ensure the energy supply across the country.

Challenges caused by Covid-19 lead to concerns about keeping the industry active and productive. Therefore the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration (APPEA) and Australian Workers Union (AWU) called the government to ensure that they can continue their operation during this severe situation.

As said by APPEA chief executive Andrew McConville, the oil and gas first priority is always safety. The AWU national secretary Daniel Walton stated that the oil and gas industries’ workers health and safety can insure the energy supply across the country. As told by him, the industry avoids being offline but the safety and health of many employees who have to work in regional and remote areas should be considered carefully.

According to establishing protocols by oil and gas industry, the essential FIFO workers can move between their home and other states under strict conditions and health requirements.
