Suggestions regarding the continuation of safety measures for fuel supply

Due to the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, major oil refineries as well as the Australian Petroleum Institute (AIP) licensed by the ACCC can continue to provide security measures for Australia’s fuel supply.
Covid-19 pandemic has reduced demand for jet fuel and gasoline, disrupting international fuel supplies. AIP and other refineries have been licensed to take action on fuel supply across Australia to manage disruptions caused by recent events and unforeseen changes in supply and demand.
The given license includes attention to various items such as wholesale of customers, fuel importers, transportation services, etc.
“Fuel companies need to coordinate import, storage and supply schedules and make sure they have enough capacity to supply fuel so that there is no shortage,” said Stephe Ridgeua, ACCC Australia Commissioner.
He added: “We issued a temporary permit in April to do this and we believe that continuing this work will have many benefits for the country.”
The ACCC has extended the contract date to 6 months and has rejected the 12-month period requested by the applicants.
